Meet the Founder

Tanzania-based Julius Shirima is Transforming Business Leadership

Julius Shirima is the founder of Darecha, a Tanzanian micro-venture capital fund. He founded the venture in 2008 when he was still a high school student in order to help young people transform their business ideas into profitable ventures with training and accessible financing.

The model that he created now has about 5,000 young people in its network and has helped many launch successful businesses.

Shirima prioritizes helping other people to transform their businesses and using his business acumen to win a top spot in the business world.

“I always wanted to set up a venture capital firm but in a way I could help fellow entrepreneurs, and that’s why I decided to set up Darecha. We are taking risks that banks are afraid of taking,” Shirima says.

He is an African Leadership Academy alumnus, finalist for the Commonwealth Youth Awards in Excellence in Development Work and winner of the overall pan-Commonwealth Youth Award in March 2015.

Shirima continues to use his platform to build exceptional young business leaders.
