How Temitope Ogunsemo Reformed the Edutech Scene in Nigeria

Nigerian-born Temitope Ogunsemo is the founder of Krystal Digital, a fast-growing educational technology company that specializes in the creation, development and deployment of customized and service oriented software applications for educational institutions in Nigeria.

Founded in 2010 in Lagos, Krystal Digital’s flagship service, MySkool Portal, a web-based application for School Information Management System designed for proper storage and documentation of school data, has been adopted by more than 50 Government-owned High schools in Nigeria, and has more than 65,000 active student users.

Ogunsemo holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Chemistry from the University of Ibadan and a Master of Science degree in Information Management System from the University of Salford, UK.

“I saw the opportunity to develop a school management system that would not only improve the storage and retrieval of academic records but also position these schools to harness the benefits of digitization.” He said.

In 2017, Krystal Digital won the Tech company of the year award at the Nigeria Technology Award and was awarded Most Enterprising ICT Organisation at the Nigeria entrepreneurs Award ceremony in 2018.

Temitope has received a few awards and recognitions as a result of his indelible impact in Africa. Earlier this year, he received the Royal African Award by Royal African Young. He also got the Leadership Forum Alumni Achievement Award, 2019 from the University of Salford.

He got to be West African Personality of the Year in 2018 by ECOWAS Youth Council and received African Child Prize for Integrity in Business Leadership in 2019. In 2018, he was named Young CEO of the year by Young CEO’s Business Forum and an Honorary Award for Outstanding Performance in ICT.

Today, the company’s flagship product, Myskool Portal boasts of over 65,000 active student users and is functional in all government-owned secondary schools in Nigeria. Krystal Digital now has more than 150 employees and annual revenues of more than $3 million
