Econet Wireless’ Ruzivo is Helping Primary and Secondary School Students Learn in Zimbabwe

Over the years, the prevalence of technology has transformed global education and has been offering new learning opportunities for everyone. This is a prerequisite in the modern world, as Africa and the world at large must constantly learn the digital skills that are needed for the jobs in the future economy.

The Ruzivo Smart Learning service was launched by Econet Wireless Zimbabwe in 2016. It is a revolutionary online interactive digital learning platform that allows students to access resources and content using mobile phones, tablets, laptops and PCs.

Ruzivo is the first online educational portal to be launched in Zimbabwe. It features interactive lessons, exercises and tests. It follows the national education curriculum in Zimbabwe and is being used both in the classroom and at home for revision or home-based learning. It basically strives to empower students with knowledge at an early stage and is being used for a wide range of primary and secondary school subjects.

It uses global technology and is being used by a million school children in Zimbabwe. Accessing content is free and Econet continues to complement the government’s efforts to revitalize Zimbabwe’s educational system.

The platform, which covers 24 subjects, how has 18,000 teachers registered.

According to Econet, “the major challenges faced in education in sub-Saharan Africa include lack of access to quality learning material and high teacher-to-student ratio. Students not only get access to the platform’s academic content, they develop technological skills and have their minds opened to new possibilities”.

Econet’s impact on education for African children dates back to 1996 and since then, it has supported orphaned and vulnerable children in Africa through education and material support – helping more than 250,000 children.
